One
In a world
A world
In one
In all
Unchanged
Ever changing
All things
Equal
Parts in a
Whole, a
Whole in
Parts
A world
Is a whole
A life
Is a world
In one
In all
All is
One is
Life
All is one is life.
Substance
Our bodies are more space than mass
So modern science has shown
Both more and less than stuff so crass
As sinew, blood and bone
So what is it we are, and who
Is it that we could be
If everything we thought we knew
Was empty, just like me?
Strings
How do we deal with loss?
Things connect to us
Or we connect to things
With strings that wind
We twine ourselves in them –
They give us support
They hamper our movements
And when they sever
Do we fall to the ground
Or fly away?
Either, Or,
When they tear away
They rend bits of us
Away with them too
And if this thing is love
Strings of steely love
Sometimes we never find
Those bits that came off
And we travel through life
With holes in our skin
Clear through to our hearts
What will you take from me?
What parts of me will be gone
When you are gone?
I will make an accounting of myself
Now, when you are breathing
Softly in my ear
So that tomorrow
I will remember how it was
When there was more of me here.
